A Message from Mike

Leverage: What do you think of? For me, leverage is at three levels. First, mechanical leverage where woodworking is a fantastic exploration of tactile physics. Second, your personal leverage where each of us is unstoppable when we truly accept ourselves and others. And third, applying these two concepts to make the world a better place. As we head into the summer, I wish you each a summer of exploration of your world and yourselves. Please read on for updates on how we are working to help you discover the leverage in your youth.

Congratulations to In the City Camps which ran a great program in 2022 and based on camper interest, TRIPLED the size of their program so that up to 32 campers can drop in from day to day while 16 dedicated campers can sign up for week-long Woodworking Intensives. YEI and MWS

The Young Entrepreneur Institute's (YEI) is a mission-aligned nonprofit, and their National Pitch Challenge is underway! Youth and teams of youth can submit short videos and compete for prizes and recognition. YEI has a free toolkit that makes it easy to facilitate a series of lessons to help them identify a problem they want to solve, develop a solution, and pitch it. The entry deadline is July 15th and is a great addition to summer programs!

They’ve created a resource with a number of ideas and resources for summer programs. Check it out here. For those working on building literacy skills, the Young Entrepreneur Pitch Toolkit has been aligned with Ohio ELA content standards for grades 6-8.
