NGSS
The NGSS curriculum challenges students to leverage design-thinking and carpentry skills to design a solution to a problem. The pedagogical beauty of this program is that in addition to thinking constructively, creatively, and scientifically, students have to consider the impact of material, cost, and time. Engineering doesn’t get more real than this.
Career Connections
Students think like carpenters as they build projects of increasing complexity. To create this real-world carpentry experience, Maplewoodshop adapted the widely used Career Connections© Curricula from the Carpenters Union Eastern Atlantic Sales Training Fund for use with non-powered tools.
Real-world projects create real-world opportunities. All Career Connections-based projects align with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters curricula to create opportunities for future apprenticeships.
Integrated STEAM
Project activities that comprise the Integrated STEAM pack bond the academic concepts that you teach to the woodworking underway. Students work through Common Core-aligned math, science, ELA, and social studies activities alongside their Maplewoodshop builds.
