A Message from Mike

What do hundreds of middle school students learning woodworking look like? Well, Long Branch, NJ can tell you. After a massively successful summer program (see below), this pioneering school district teamed up with the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Funds to obtain powerful curriculum and with Maplewoodshop to make delivery safe, portable, and easy to implement. In two schools, we will help newly trained teachers teach roughly 400 students this coming school year. We are thrilled and humbled to be part of a sea change in attitudes towards the trades and will share updates in the coming months.

Maplewoodshop is proud to share that Reach Cyber Charter School, a partner, is featured in e-school news. JD Smith, Director of Career Readiness, highlights career readiness goals for students and what Reach Cyber is doing to promote access to trade opportunities for all students.

Viewpoint

We are very excited to share a new addition to our team. Hannah Patrick joined Maplewoodshop in August as Trainer and Curriculum Developer. Originally from Orlando FL, Hannah started her career in education 3 years ago as a 2nd grade teacher in North Philadelphia. While working as a teacher she discovered her passion for instruction and curriculum and recently completed her Masters in Instructional Design and Technology. In addition to her love for everything education and learning, she has two rescue chihuahuas at home named Penelope and Pepper.

She enjoys reading, writing, traveling with her dogs, being on the beach, and spontaneous adventures. Some of her favorite travel places so far have been Gardiner, NY, Cozumel Mexico, Savannah GA, and Charleston SC.
